Department of Microbiology

The department of Microbiology was established in 1998. Since then the department has made remarkable progress in academics .Microbiology as a basic and applied science has been considered as an important discipline of science which has implications in various aspects of human welfare like Medicine, Agriculture, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

           BSc. Microbiology course,  Microbiology as core course with Chemistry and Zoology as complementary courses is affiliated to Kannur University and the scheme and curriculum are based on choice based credits and semester system. Core programme offers various interdisciplinary courses that include Basic Microbiology, Microbial taxonomy, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Virology, Molecular biology, Immunology, Industrial Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Medical Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Food Microbiology and Agricultural Microbiology.

           The department provides a good environment for students to bring their ideas and research aptitude and also encourage students to participate in academic discussions and extracurricular activities. Students are allowed to organize and engage in department’s association activities and provide a platform to develop their leadership qualities.

             The courses are taught by teachers with good academic record and all faculty members engage themselves in equipping the latest skills in their subject by attending workshops, seminars and conferences. Both laboratory and library of the departments are well equipped with instruments and books.

              On completion of the course, students may pursue MSc.  In microbiology or other interdisciplinary course in famous Universities in India and they can carry forward their research in various institutes in India and abroad. This course offers various jobs in  Medical , Industrial, Food, Pharmaceutical, Agricultural, Genetic Engineering and Bioinformatics fields.
